Dawson Torborg both claimed individual titles for the University of Minnesota Duluth at the University of Minnesota Twilight Meet in Minneapolis, Minn.
Carmickle -- in his UMD outdoor debut -- took top honors in the triple jump with a leap of 14.41 meters while Torborg's 6.42-meter effort in the long jump paced the field. UMD, which took a select number of athletes to the midweek event, also received a third-place finish from sophomore
Alex Kulzer, who clocked in at 50.12 in the 400-meter dash. Junior
Sam Wiechman (55.48 in the 400-meter hurdles), sophomore
Owen Smalley (15:24.36 in the 5,000-meter run), freshman Dakota Schamling (15.87 in the 110-meter hurdles) and junior
Dan Clark (4.40 meters in the pole vault) all took fourth in their respective competitions.
In addition the 4 x 400 relay unit of Kulzer, senior
Ryan Tolkinen, sophomore
Austin Have and freshman
Tyler Wanous came in first in 3:21.97 as did UMD's 4 x 100 relay quartet of Torborg, freshmen
Nathan Lusty and
Mark Swann and sophomore
Nate Hoglund (42:39).
The Bulldogs will have one more tuneup -- the Meet of the UnSaintly this Friday and Saturday (May 3-4) before Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which they will host the following weekend.
