NO. 6 BULLDOGS SWEEPS THE DAY AGAINST BEAT TIGERS AND NO. 14 HAWKS

The No. 6 ranked Bulldogs come away with two wins in a double header to finish the final day of the Texan Invitational. The wins bring UMD to a 3-1 overall on the year after playing four non-conference matches in Texas after the Palm Beach Atlantic Bash at the Beach was canceled due to hurricane Dorian.
 
The Bulldogs had an impressive offensive showing on Saturday, hitting at a .392 clip in the first match, and a .294 for the second.
 
UMD swept the University of West Alabama in straight sets 25-20, 25-13, 25-14. It consisted of high offense from the Bulldogs, seeing eight different attackers, with junior outside hitter Kate Berg leading the way with 28 total attacks, rattling off 11 kills for the match. Senior right side hitter Hanna Meyer rallied off 12 kills in the match, good for a .500 hitting clip, accumulating six digs in the process and one block in the process. Senior defensive specialist Keena Seiffert finished the match with 13 digs and giving three assists and getting four blocks along the way. Senior setter Emily Balts was dishing everything out, completing the set with 37 assists while getting three kills as well.
 
In the second match, UMD flexed its' defensive muscles, with a total of 18 blocks throughout. The Bulldogs swept the Hawks 25-19, 25-22, 25-17. Senior middle blocker Lexy Langenfeld had a total of five blocks in the match, senior middle blocker Abby Thor ended with four, while also accumulating 11 kills and hitting at a .588 clip. Berg finished out the match with 14 kills and 13 digs. Balts had 37 assists with seven digs.
 
Seiffert had 16 digs in the match, and is now 14 digs away from breaking 1000 digs in her collegiate career.

Berg and Balts were both named to the All-Tournament team. Berg was able to collect 57 kills on the weekend, making 33 digs, while making four blocks and dishing eight assists. Balts was able to accumulate 149 assists over the weekend, with 16 kills, 22 digs and three total blocks along the way.
 
The Bulldogs return to action in Thursday, Sept. 12 to take part in the St. Cloud State Invitational. They will take on Michigan Tech at 7:30 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn.
