The University of Minnesota Duluth won their first game of the weekend against the Minnesota State University  69-58, keeping them undefeated at home. UMD improves to 13-4 overall and 10-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while MSU falls to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in the NSIC. 

With UMD's second leading scorer Katie Stark inactive for this game, sophomore forward Brooke Olson picked up the slack and put up a career high 28 points which included going 62.5% (5-8) on 3-pointers and grabbing six rebounds.

UMD started off the game struggling against the MSU zone press, finishing the first half shooting just 34.4% from the field and 14.3% on 3-pointers. However, the Bulldog's defense was just as disruptive, forcing 11 turnovers and holding the Mavericks to 31.3% shooting from the field and 25% on 3-pointers. UMD went into the half with a 27-24 lead.

The Bulldogs came out of halftime on fire. They went on a 13-6 scoring run to give them a 42-32 lead early in the third quarter. From there the Bulldogs put the game away with great defense and 18 second half points from Olson.

Sophomore guard Maesyn Thiesen finished with 12 points, two rebounds and three assists. Junior forward Sarah Grow finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks and senior guard Taylor Schneider finished with seven points and three steals.

Overall, UMD finished the night shooting 48.3% (29-60) from the field, 37.5% (6-16) on 3-pointers. 

The Bulldogs will play another home game tomorrow against Concordia St. Paul at 3:30 PM.
