The University of Minnesota Duluth defeated Concordia-St. Paul 74-55, making it their third win in a row. UMD improves to 14-4 overall and 11-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference while CSP fall to 9-9 overall and 6-6 in the NSIC.
The game started off with both teams trading baskets. UMD found most of their first quarter points coming from inside, scoring 10 of their 16 points in the paint. The Bulldogs ended the quarter with the lead, 16-13.
The second quarter is where UMD pulled away. They outscored the Golden Bears 19-9 in the quarter, shooting 47.1% (8-17) from the field and 75% (3-4) on 3-pointers. CSP only shot 20% (3-15) from the field and 12.5% (1-8) on 3-pointers. UMD went into halftime with a 35-22 lead.
The Bulldogs came into the second half and put the game away, never letting the lead go below 15 points. UMD put the reserves in with a little over three minutes left in the game which gave the opportunity for freshman guard Ani Tschida to score the first points of her collegiate career.
Junior forward Sarah Grow finished with a game high 17 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Senior guard Taylor Schneider finished with a career high 15 points and also had two steals. Sophomore forward Brooke Olson finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Ann Simonet finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals.Â
Overall, UMD finished the night shooting 48.4% (30-62) from the field, 50% (5-10) on 3-pointers and out rebounded CSP 46-32.
The Bulldogs will be on the road the next two weeks, their next game coming against Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Jan. 24th at 5:30 PM.
