Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

NO. 6 BULLDOGS MAKE IT EIGHT IN A ROW OVER OMAHA

And the beat goes on.

The University of Minnesota Duluth has eight different players mark in the scoring column and ran its winning streak against the University of Nebraska Omaha with a 3-2 triumph Friday night at AMSOIL Arena.

The No. 6 Bulldogs, who never trailed in the National Collegiate  Hockey Conference series opener, improved to 16-9-2 overall and maintained their hold on second place in the league standings at 11-4-2.

Junior left winger Kobe Roth gave UMD a 1-0 lead at 12:59 of the first period when the took a feed from sophomore right winger Tanner Laderoute from in close and flipped in a shot for his 12th goal of the season. The Mavericks (12-12-5 overall and 6-8-3-0 in the NCHC), evened the score 1:149 into the second period, but rookie left winger Quinn Olson answered for the hosts with a power play tally of his own, breaking in down the left side and letting a wrister fly from the left faceoff circle. UMD went up 3-1 midway through the third period after sophomore left winger Noah Cates grabbed a loose puck off a defensive zone faceoff, skated in and shoved a backhand under the pads of Maverick goalie Isaiah Saville. Omaha cut the deficit in half with 6:29 to go in regulation, but UMD senior All-American netminder Hunter Shepard shut the door after that and wound up finishing the night with 24 saves. Saville had 38 stops, but played a key part in holding the nation's second-most efficient power play to just one goal in six chances.

Both Noah and Jackson Cates, who assisted on his brother's goal, extended their scoring streaks to five games and have collected points in 11 of the last 13 outings.

"It looked to me like we could have scored on more of our chances in the first period,"  said UMD head coach Scott Sandelin. "Noah and Kobe have been really consistent players for us and they play the game the right way. When you play the game the right way you get rewarded and they are proof of that."

The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
