Seven University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs were crowned individual champions at Saturday's 12th annual Lake Superior Challenge, which was hosted by the College of St. Scholastica.
The winners included juniors
Christian Leonard in the 1,000-meter run (2:32.96),
Alex Kulzer in the 200-meter dash (23.35) and
Tyler Wanous in the high jump (5'-10.75"), sophomores
Shea Alto in the pole vault (13'-3.5"),
Trent Hamerski in the long jump (20'-2.25") andÂ
Ben Palmquist in the 60-meter hurdles (8.61), and freshman
Jordan Gruenes in the 600-meter run (1:25.16).
In addition, the Bulldogs placed first in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3:28.64 with Wanous, Palmquist, Kulzer and junior
Evan Husby doing the honors.
UMD will head to Mankato, MInn., next Saturday (Feb. 15) for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Challenge.
