Duluth, Minn. – The Bulldogs hosted the No. 20 Michigan Tech Huskies. This would be the second time the teams would face off this season, with the first being the first match of the season as the Huskies would win 3-0. The Bulldogs would end up in a five-set battle but would be able avenge their early defeat to pull out a 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 25-15, 15-10). victory to move their winning streak to five matches.
The first set would see the Bulldogs and Huskies battle throughout the set. Neither team would be able to grab an advantage in the beginning of the set as teams would battle to a 9-9 tie. After trading points, the Bulldogs would be able to take a small advantage 16-13. After the Huskies tied it back up at 17-17, the Bulldogs would go on to score 4 straight points to take a 21-17 lead. This lead would prove to be too much for the Huskies as the Bulldogs would win the set 25-19.
The second set would prove to be another battle. Michigan Tech would manage to pull out to a 7-4 lead early in the set. The Bulldogs would be able to battle back to tie the set at 13-13. After trading points, the Huskies would take a 16-19 lead. From there, the Huskies would go on to score 4 straight points to close out the Bulldogs 18-25 to tie the match 1-1.
In the third set, neither team would be able to pull away. Teams would battle and trade points to a 11-11 tie. Both teams would continue to trade points all the way to a 20-20 tie. From there, the Bulldogs would be able to take control and thanks to a kill from
Grace Daak, the Bulldogs won the third set 25-23, to take a 2-1 lead.
In the pivotal fourth set, the Huskies would control most of the set. They would jump out to an early 11-6 lead. From there, the Bulldogs would have no answer for the Huskies as Michigan Tech would score 5 straight points to get to a 17-8 lead. The Bulldogs would attempt to comeback and would draw it to a 19-13 deficit. It would be too late for the Bulldogs as the Huskies would win the fourth set 15-25 to force a fifth set.
The fifth set would see the Bulldogs jump out to a 5-3 lead. Michigan Tech would battle back however and force a 8-8 tie. From there, the Bulldogs would take control of the set and would go on to win 7 of the last 9 points to win the set 15-10 and win the match 3-2.
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore
Cianna Selbitschka who had 19 kills on the night. Fifth year
Kate Berg would also add 14 kills on the night. Redshirt junior
Madison Gordon would add 53 assists on the night. Selbitschka would add 19 digs on the night, while Berg added 15 digs as both players had double-doubles on the night. Senior
Sydney Lanoue would also add 17 digs on the night.
The Huskies were led by Anna Jonynas who had 21 kills on the night. Olivia Ghormley would also add 15 kills on the night. Laura De Marchi added 55 assists on the night. Jonynas and De Marchi would both tally double-doubles with 21 and 15 digs respectively.
