Bemidji, Minn. – The UMD Bulldogs would travel to face off against the Bemidji State Beavers. The Bulldogs would find themselves in a highly competitive match but would be able to beat the Beavers 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 27-25).
In the first set, both teams would start out strong, with neither team able to take an advantage. Teams would battle to a 9-9 tie before the Bulldogs would slowly start to take control of the set. The Bulldogs would slowly be able to build up to a 19-15 lead. The Beavers would attempt to come back but the Bulldogs would shut them out to win the set 25-20.
The second set would be much like the first as both teams would battle and trade points to a 10-10 tie. From there, the Bulldogs would once again slowly start to take control of the set. UMD would battle and build a 20-18 lead. Once again Bemidji State would attempt to come back and would get it to within one point, but the Bulldogs would once again be able to close out the set and win 25-23 to go up 2-0.
In the pivotal third set, teams would once again battle in the beginning of the set. This time however, Bemidji State is the team that would slowly take an advantage in the third set. The Beavers would build up to a 18-22 lead. After a UMD timeout, the Bulldogs would manage to battle back and draw to a 24-24 tie. After each team scored a point, the Bulldogs would go on to score two straight points and would win the set and match 27-25 thanks to a kill by
Grace Daak.
The Bulldogs would be led by sophomore
Grace Daak who had 14 kills on the night. Freshman
Samantha Paulsen would also add 12 kills on an impressive .524 hitting percentage. Redshirt junior
Madison Gordon would add 41 assists on the night. Sophomore
Kaylyn Madison would add 14 digs while senior
Sydney Lanoue would add 12 digs.
The Beavers would be led by Anna Averkamp who would have 13 kills. Emily Wade would add 29 assists on the night while Lauren Justesen would add 16 digs.
