Previous Meetings
The Bulldogs and Wildcats faced off twice last season as they split their meetings last season. The Bulldogs won the first meeting 73-60 and St. Cloud State won the second meeting 91-86. The Bulldogs have won 4 of the last 6 overall meetings against the Huskies.
Scouting the Huskies
St. Cloud State comes into the matchup having lost their past two games. They lost 89-84 at home against Clarke University. They then lost 69-84 on the road against Minnesota State. The Huskies will look to turn it around as they head to Duluth for their conference opener. St. Cloud State will then play two more away games this week as they will also travel to face off against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan later in the week.
Youngsters on the Rise
This Bulldogs squad once again features one of the youngest teams in the conference. The Bulldogs starting lineup features two juniors and three sophomores. Their lineup also features freshman guard Joshua Strong who has seen significant time off of the bench so far this sea- son. Despite their youth, the Bulldogs squad looks to build on some of their success from last season. The Bulldogs look to shock the rest of the NSIC and look to finish towards the top of the conference.
NSIC North Player of the Week
Redshirt-junior Drew Blair was named the NSIC North Player of the Week following thier first weekend of play. Blair started the season off to a hot start, as he averaged over 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the opening weekend. Blair would continue his great play as he would score 27 points against Concordia-St. Paul. Blair is averaging 22.8 points per game so far this season, and looks to lead the Bulldogs high powered offense.
High Powered Offense
The Bulldogs and Huskies come into this matchup with two of the highest scoring offenses in the NSIC. The Bulldogs currently rank 1st in the conference in scoring averaging 97.8 points per game. The Huskies currently rank 4th in the conference averaging 86 points per game. This matchup has the potential to be one of the highest scoring matchups of the season.
Two of the Conferences Best
This matchup will also feature two of the NSIC's leading scorers. Bulldogs redshirt junior guard Drew Blair currently ranks 2nd in the conference averaging 22.8 points per game. Huskies Anthony Roberts currently ranks 3rd in the conference as he averages 20.8 points per game. Both players are two of the conferences most prolific scorers and both have the ability to take over a game.
Preseason Coaches' Poll
Before the season started, the NSIC released their preseason coaches poll. In the North Divsion, the Huskies recieved 36 points and were picked to finish 2nd in the north division while the Bulldogs received 35 points and were projected to finish 3rd in the North Division. Overall, the Bulldogs recieved 142 points to finish 6th in the conference while St. Cloud State finished with 132 points and picked to finish 7th in the conference.
