Duluth, Minn. – The No. 13/22 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs hosted the Minot State Beavers. The Bulldogs started hot and stayed hot as they extended their Division II best record to 10-0 as they defeated the Beavers 91-73.
The Bulldogs offense started the game off hot as they jumped out to a early 25-11 lead with 10:58 to go in the first half. From there, they stayed hot as they built up to a 23-point lead in the first half. Despite a late run by the Beavers, the Bulldogs were able to maintain their lead as they went into halftime up by 19 points thanks to a dunk from
Austin Andrews. The Bulldogs were led by
Joshua Brown who had 16 points in the first half followed by
Jacob Shields who added 14 points off the bench. Overall, the Bulldogs shot an impressive 20-32 (62.5%) from the field and 8-13 (61.5%) from three-point range. The Beavers struggled on the offensive end as they shot 10-25 (40%) from the field and 3-10 (30%) from three-point range. They also shot 8-8 from the foul line.
The second half saw much of the same from the Bulldogs as their offense was firing on all cylinders. The Bulldogs built up to a 29-point lead with 13:40 left in the game. The Bulldogs continued to stay hot on offense as they got a balanced attack in the second half. From there, the Bulldogs maintained their lead throughout as the Beavers were only able to get it as close as 16 points towards the end of the game. Despite a strong shooting half from Minot State, they were not able to overcome the Bulldogs large lead. UMD was able to dominate the Beavers in the paint as the Bulldogs scored 52 points in the paint compared to just 24 for the Beavers. Overall, 6 Bulldogs were in double-digits on the night, including all 5 starters.
The Bulldogs were led by
Joshua Brown who had 22 points on the night followed by
Jacob Shields who added 16 points off the bench on a perfect 7-7 from the field.
Charlie Katona led the team with 6 rebounds on the night.
Austin Andrews and
Jack Middleton led the team with 5 assists each on the night. Andrews, Shields and
Drew Blair all added 2 steals on the night. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 37-59 (62.7%) from the field and 10-21 (47.6%) from three-point range. They also shot 7-11 (63.6%) from the foul line.
Minot State was led by Melvin Newbern who had 21 points on the night. Kody Dwyer and Eli Cave both added 5 rebounds on the night while Max Cody led the team with 7 assists. Overall, the Beavers shot 26-55 (47.3%) from the field and 9-19 (47.4%) from three-point range. They also shot 12-13 (92.3%) from the foul line on the night.
