Haleigh Reindl has officially qualified for Saturday's championship round in the 800-meter run.
Reindl grabbed third place in Friday's second preliminary heat posting a time of 2:11.84 which in turn officially qualified her for Saturday's 800-meter run championship. The race itself was anything but ordinary for the Waterford, Wis. native who lost her shoe on the second lap of the race. Reindl battled through the rest of the race and was able to fend off a late surge from competitors behind her to secure the third place finish.
" I was so impressed with Haleigh's ability to stay poised and finish the race that way, onto the finals!" said Head Coach
Laura Harmon of Reindl's performance.
By qualifying for the championship round Reindl attains All-American status for the second consecutive year, the last UMD Indoor Track and Field athlete to do so since Danielle Kowhley attained All-American status in 2019, and 2018.
With a first place finish tomorrow, Reindl would become UMD's fourth National Champion in NCAA II Indoor Track and Field.
Tomorrow's 800-meter run championship will go off at 6:40 PM.
