Today, Bulldogs junior forward
Brooke Olson was announced as a WBCA All-American for the second consecutive season. Olson was a member of the WBCA All-American First-Team in 2019-20.
The Rice Lake, Wis. native Olson was again nothing but dominant for the Bulldogs in her junior campaign. Olson started in all 16 games for the Bulldogs this season averaging 30.1 minutes per night. Olson led the Bulldogs in scoring this year putting up an impressive 21.9 points per game, this figure not only led the Bulldogs but also the led Nothern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and ranked seventh in all of NCAA DII. Her great success scoring the basketball has made for an exceptional shooting percentage from the field, Olson led the Bulldogs from the field this season converting on 53.5% of her attempted shots, this mark also led the NSIC and ranked her in the top 30 of NCAA DII coming in at No. 28. Her scoring touch didn't diminish at the charity stripe either Olson converted on 48-57 (84.2%) of her free throws this season, that mark is good for seventh in the NSIC and 54th in all of Divison II. It wasn't all scoring for Olson as she also led the Bulldogs on the glass this season, she averaged 7.8 boards per game which ranked her third in the NSIC. Olson got better as the season went along for UMD, the Bulldog forward recorded five double-doubles on the season in her last six games played, including two straight in the Bulldogs' NCAA tournament appearances. Olson also eclipsed the 20 point mark in 10 of her 16 games played this season, including posting a season high 31 points in the Bulldogs NCAA Tournament Regional Quarterfinal victory against Emporia State
Olson was named NSIC North Player of the Week two times this season (January 11, 2021), and (February 8, 2021). Olson was named the NSIC North Player of the Year following the conclusion of the 2020-21 regular season, this included Olson being named an All-NSIC North First-Team selection. Following the Bulldogs NSIC Tournament Championship, she was selected to the NSIC All-Tournament Team as well as being named Tournament MVP.
Olson is the first Bulldog Women's Basketball player to receive WBCA All-American honors in consecutive years since Lindsay Dietz was named a WBCA All-American in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
