Veteran University of Minnesota Duluth bench boss
Scott Sandelin is one of 10 finalists for the American Hockey Coaches Association's Spencer Penrose Award, which is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Men's Hockey Coach of the Year.
Sandelin, who was the recipient of this prestigious award in 2004, the runner-up eight years ago and a finalist in each of the past four winters, has directed the Bulldogs to 15-10-2 overall record and a third-place finish in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, going 13-9-2. Since the start of the 2016-17 season, Sandelin has posted the second-most victories (he's 119-54-16 with two NCAA championships and three national title game appearances during that stretch) than any other head coach in the country. He has guided the Bulldogs to their fourth straight Frozen Four.
The nominees represent any coach who won or shared Coach of the Year honors in his conference this past season, as well as coaches whose teams have advanced to the 2021 NCAA Frozen Four. The only coach who has done both is Minnesota State's Mike Hastings.
