UMD FINISHES KEWEENAW CLASSIC WITH WIN, IMPROVES TO 3-1

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- The No. 7 ranked University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs defeated the University of Northern Michigan 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-10).

Unlike the Bulldogs previous 3 games this weekend, they jumped out to a quick start, jumping out to a 11-3 lead. The Bulldogs did not stop there, they would continue to dominate the rest of the set to earn a 25-14 1st set win.
 
The 2nd set saw the Bulldogs and Wildcats trade points to start the set and be tied at 11-11. After a timeout from Jim Boos, the Bulldogs would pull it together and jump out to a 20-16 lead. The Wildcats would attempt to come back, but the Bulldogs would be too dominate and Emma Kujawa would seal the 2nd set victory with a service ace.
 
The Bulldogs once again jumped out to a quick lead in the 3rd set, grabbing a demanding 10-3 lead. The Bulldogs would continue the pressure and continued to build a demanding lead. They would soon cap off a strong set and match with winning the last 5 points in the row.
 
Head Coach Jim Boos was once again impressed with the Bulldogs ability to serve. He credits their ability to serve in disrupting the Wildcats offense, which benefitted the Bulldogs. Coach Boos was also pleased with the play he got from the middle of the Bulldogs offense.

Sophomore Cianna Selbitschka led the team in total kills with 12 and recorded another double-double with 10 digs as well. Senior Summer Ballard added 10 kills of her own, while Junior Grace Post added 9 kills. Redshirt-Junior Madison Gordon once again led the team with 35 assists on the day.

To lead the Wildcats, Jacqueline Smith had 7 kills. Caylie Barlage lead the team with 13 assists and Lizzy Start added 11 digs.
 
The Bulldogs wrap up the Keweenaw Classic with a win to bring the team to 3-1 on the season. Coach Boos was happy how the Bulldogs finished the weekend, with today's game being their best performance. He saw the team improve each day and believes this weekend's experience will benefit them moving forward this season.
 
NEXT UP:
The Bulldogs will travel to Kenosha, WI for the Wisconsin-Parkside Tournament and will face Lake Superior State at 12:30 PM and will also face Wisconsin-Parkside at 7:15 PM on September 10th.
