BIG NIGHT FROM GROW PROPELS BULLDOGS TO THRID STRAIGHT WIN

Winona, Minn. – The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs traveled to face off against the Winona State Warriors. Despite a slow start to the game, the Bulldogs managed to rally for a 61-47 win. The win pushes the Bulldogs to 11-4 (9-2) on the season.
 
The Bulldogs started the game off slow as they could not find rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs hit just two shots the entire quarter as they struggled from the field. Their defense stepped up however as they held the Warriors to just 10 points in the quarter as UMD trailed 10-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs shot just 2-14 (14.29%) from the field and 0-2 from three-point range in the first quarter. The Warriors shot 5-14 (35.7%) from the field and 0-2 from three-point range in the first quarter.
 
The second quarter saw the Bulldogs offense catch fire. The Bulldogs managed to work their way to a 15-14 lead with 5:24 left in the first half. From there, both teams traded baskets down the stretch as the Bulldogs led 26-22 at halftime. The Bulldogs shot 9-13 (69.2%) from the field and 4-7 (57.14%) from three-point range in the second quarter. The Warriors shot 5-15 (33.3%) from the field and 1-7 (14.3%) from three-point range in the quarter.
 
The third quarter was a highly contested quarter as the Bulldogs failed to pull ahead in the third quarter. After getting their lead to 8, the Warriors worker their way back into the game as they tied the game up at 36-36 with :45 seconds remaining. Brooke Olson ended the quarter with a layup to give the Bulldogs the lead going into the fourth quarter.  UMD shot 6-15 (40%) from the field and 0-5 from three-point range in the quarter. Winona State shot 6-11 (54.6%) from the field and 2-3 (66.7%) from three-point range in the quarter.
 
The Bulldogs offense once again came alive in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs quickly built up their lead and took a 51-38 lead thanks to a Maesyn Thiesen layup with 5:09 remaining. From there, the Bulldogs defense was stout as they held the Warriors to just 11 fourth quarter points. Thanks to a strong defensive performance, the Bulldogs won 61-47. The Bulldogs shot 6-12 (50%) from the field and 1-4 (25%) from three-point range in the quarter. They shot their only free-throws of the game as they shot 10-13 from the line. The Warriors shot 4-15 (26.7%) from the field and 3-9 (33.3%) from three-point range.
 
The Bulldogs were led by Sarah Grow who had a season high 20 points on the night. Brooke Olson scored 12 points as Ann Simonet and Maesyn Thiesen added 12 and 11 points respectively. Olson led the team with 10 rebounds for a double-double on the night. Thiesen led the team with 5 assists on the night.  Overall, the Bulldogs shot 23-54 (42.6%) from the field and 5-18 (27.8%) from three-point range on the night. They also shot 10-13 from the foul line.
 
The Warriors were led by Taylor Hustad who had 16 points on the night. Hustad and Emma Fee led the team with 7 rebounds each. Overall, the Warriors shot 20-55 (36.4%) from the field and 6-21 (28.6%) from three point range on the night.

The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs will travel to face off against the Upper Iowa Peacocks tomorrow. Tip-off is at 5:30 pm.
