Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs hosted the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs led the entire game after a big first quarter propelled them to a 86-42 win.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead as they took an 11-0 lead thanks to a
Madelyn Granica layup with 5:35 left in the quarter. The Bulldogs led by double digits the rest of the way as they led by as many as 17 points in the first quarter. The Bulldogs offense stayed hot the rest of the first quarter as they took a 25-11 first quarter lead. The Bulldogs shot an impressive 11-16 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs offense stayed hot in the second quarter as the Golden Bears could not break into the Bulldogs lead.
Brooke Olson started the quarter with a three-pointer for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs led by as many as 22 points in the second quarter. The Bulldogs and Golden Bears traded baskets towards the end of the half, but the Bulldogs kept the lead out of reach as they took a 41-21 halftime lead. The Bulldogs shot 6-12 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range in the second quarter.
Brooke Olson led the Bulldogs with 11 points in the first half, followed by
Kaylee Nelson with 9 points off the bench.
The third quarter was much of the same for the Bulldogs as they started the quarter with a
Sarah Grow layup. The Bulldogs from there maintained their lead as the Golden Bears could not mount a comeback. After a layup from
Maesyn Thiesen, the Bulldogs began to extend their lead towards the end of the quarter as they went into the fourth quarter with a 57-30 lead. The Bulldogs had their worst shooting quarter of the night as they shot 7-19 from the field and 1-4 from three-point range.
With the game out of reach, the Bulldogs began to empty their bench as the whole roster played.
Gus Boyer came off the bench in the fourth quarter and had two three-pointers while
Shaily Hakamaki also came off the bench and scored a basket for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had 12 players score on the night as the Bulldogs won big by a score of 86-42.
The Bulldogs were led by
Brooke Olson who had 13 points on the night while
Kaylee Nelson had a career-high 12 points off the bench.
Sarah Grow and Ella Gibertson also added 11 points each.
Brooke Olson and
Taytum Rhoades both had 9 rebounds on the night.
Maesyn Thiesen led the team with 6 assists while Rhoades added 4 assists of her own. Overall, the Bulldogs shot 35-65 (53.8%) from the field on the night and 8-15 (53.3%) from three-point range. They also shot 8-12 from the free throw line.
The Golden Bears were led by Lindsey Becher who had 9 points on the night. Sydney Zgutowicz had 10 rebounds while Meghan DuBois and Jadyn Hanson both added 3 assists. Overall, the Golden Bears shot 13-57 (22.8%) from the field and 7-17 (41.2%) from three-point range on the night. They shot 9-10 from the foul line.

The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs will travel to face Winona State next Friday at 7:30 PM. They will then travel to face off against Upper Iowa on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
