The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team handed the Augustana University Vikings their fourth conference loss. The Bulldogs beat the Vikings 1-0 for their second shutout win on the weekend. The Bulldog defense came up big in their second shutout giving the offense their opportunity to strike.
Hannah Caldwell scores in the 66th minute for the Bulldogs tallying her third goal of the season. This was the first win on Vikings territory since 2018 and the time before that in 2014 in the NSIC Tournament, which both resulted with a 1-0 score.
The tone of the match was set when both teams started the first half moving the ball well and maintaining great defensive shape. The Bulldogs began to struggle with offensive and defensive transitions which allowed Augustana to penetrate their lines and go to goal. Junior goalkeeper
Jennifer Norris came up big for UMD from start to finish, making five saves in just the first half.
The Augustana Vikings started the second half dominating the Bulldogs and would continue to do so until there was about 25 minutes left of the match. Caldwell changed the momentum of the game for UMD after scoring a left-footed shot near post. Senior
Erin Walpole would get the assist.
Norris tied her season best for number of saves in a game with 11 saves, the last time being the Bulldogs' first game of the year against Michigan Tech. Norris played a huge role in keeping the competition alive against Augustana University and will add a third shutout to her name this season.
The Bulldogs are set to travel to Moorhead, MN to face Minnesota State University Moorhead for their last away game in NSIC conference play. Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm on Friday, October 21st.
