UMD VOLLEYBALL PUNCHES TICKET TO NCAA TOURNAMENT, SITS AT THIRD IN CENTRAL REGION

The UMD volleyball team landed at third in the NCAA Tournament's Central Region when the bracket was released Sunday night. This marks the 23rd tournament appearance for UMD and its first since 2019.

The Bulldogs will face off against Washburn of the MIAA Conference, who sits at No. 6 in the region. The Ichabods head into the tournament with a 27-4 record, fresh off the heels of winning their conference tournament against Nebraska-Kearney. Washburn made it all the way to the NCAA Championship game last season before losing 3-0 to Tampa. All-time, UMD has only encountered Washburn once before, and it was also on tournament time. Back in 2018, the two schools faced off in the second round, a matchup the Ichabods took 3-0.

Fellow NSIC member Wayne State landed at No. 1 in the region and will play host to the Regional Tournament, which runs from Nov. 18-20. The winner of each of the four Regional Tournaments will advance to Seattle, Wash. for the finals, which will run from Dec.1 to Dec. 3.

Besides the Bulldogs and Wildcats, two other NSIC schools will represent the conference in the tournament. Concordia St. Paul is at No. 2 after an NSIC Tournament Championship appearance. At No. 5 sits the NSIC Tournament Champions in St. Cloud State.

Rounding out the rest of the Central Region is No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 4 Northwest Missouri State and No. 8 Harding.

UMD's matchup against Washburn is set for November 18. Tournament match times are to be determined.
