UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community. 

Minnesota Duluth junior goaltender Ryan Fanti has been named a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award, the Hockey Commissioners Association announced on Tuesday afternoon. Fanti is the only netminder out of the NCHC to earn the recognition. 

On the season, Fanti has appeared in 26 games, while posting a record of 13-9-3 with a save percentage of .919 and goals against average of 2.00. In the nation, Fanti ranks seventh in goals against average and 20th in save percentage.

In November, Fanti was named the HCA's National Goaltender of the Month. In eight games through November, Fanti rolled off a 5-2-1 record, while noting four shutouts in the process. Additionally, Fanti secured a 1.00 goals against average and a save percentage of .957 during the eight game stretch.

The Mike Richter Award is awarded to the most outstanding men's hockey goalie each season. Fanti joins a list of eleven other goaltenders from around the NCAA. Five semifinalists are U.S. natives, with four from Canada and one each from the Czech Republic and Sweden. One is a freshman, five are sophomores, three are juniors, and two are seniors. Three finalists will be announced in mid-March and the winner of this year's Mike Richter Award will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four in Boston.
