For the second time in three weeks, University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey sophomore goaltender
Jojo Chobak is the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Goaltender of the Week.
The Chicago, Ill. native shutout the No. 3 University of Wisconsin in its home rink of LaBahn Arena Friday night -- the first opposing goaltender to deal the Badgers that blow in over two seasons. Chobak had a whopping career-best 45 saves on 45 shots Friday night in the Bulldogs 3-0 win, and added 24 Saturday in UMD's setback. Including the Bulldogs 5-1 win over St. Cloud State University last Tuesday, Chobak had 86 saves over five days last week and posted a 2-1 record and .935 saves percentage. Â
Chobak's 45 saves ties the highest stop total by a UMD goaltender in two seasons -- current Olympian Emma Sodberg also posted 45 saves against Wisconsin last season on Feb. 27. 2021. Chobak was named the WCHA's Goaltender of the Month for January and was also named the WCHA's Goaltender of the Week on Jan. 24 -- four days after Soderberg left for the Olympics.
Chobak, who is 5-2 in seven relief starts for Sodeberg and has now shutout two, top-3 teams, will man the pipes this weekend for the Bulldogs when they welcome St. Thomas University to AMSOIL Arena for a Friday-Saturday WCHA series that gets underway at 6:00 p.m. Friday night.
