St. Paul, MN. -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs faced off against the Concordia Saint Paul Golden Bears on Thursday afternoon for a double-header. The Bulldogs would lose both games as the Golden Bears won the first game 7-0 and then won the second game 11-10.
Game 1:Â
The top of the first was scoreless by the Bulldogs. The Golden Bears however take an early lead scoring 3 on a home run followed by another RBI making the score 4-0 favoring the Golden Bears coming out of the first. The Bulldogs see some hitting action in the second and fourth innings but would be shut down by a strong Golden Bear defense. After a scoreless second and third, the Golden Bears would add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Golden Bears started off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run followed by a run scored on an error and another scored on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs tried to rally back with a strong defense in the fifth and sixth innings but could not recover as they lost game one 7-0.Â
Brandt Kolpack and
Alex Wattermann went 1-3 for the game and
Trevor Gustafson went 1-2.Â
The Golden Bears' Reece Piontek went a complete game to earn the win.Â
Game 2:Â
Tosten Mann started the game strong with a single in the top of the first inning.
Tim Pokornowski came into the top of the first inning with a single to shortstop bringing in
Tosten Mann giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. This was quickly followed by a home run by
Brodie Paulson bringing in
Trevor Gustafson and
Tim Pokornowski giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead. The Golden Bears came back in the bottom of the first with an RBI to lessen the Bulldog lead to 4-1 heading into the second. After a scoreless second and third for the Bulldogs the Golden Bears scored 1 on an RBI and 2 more on a home run in the third to tie the game at 4-4 going into the fourth inning. The Golden Bears pulled ahead in the fourth inning with a home run driving in 2 runs giving the Golden Bears a lead of 4-6.
Brandt Kolpack gets the Bulldogs fired up in the fifth inning hitting a single up the middle driving in
Alex Wattermann to shorten the Golden Bear lead to 5-6. The Golden Bears answered back in the fifth by scoring 2 on RBIs to make the score 5-8. After a scoreless sixth inning,
Jack Nemetz cut back on the Golden Bear lead in the top of the seventh by hitting in
Alex Wattermann to make the score 6-8. The Golden Bears answered back in the seventh with 2 RBIs to make the score 6-10 going into the eighth inning.
Trevor Gustafson started the eighth inning rally with a single to left field driving in
Tosten Mann to make the score 7-10.
Jack Puder followed this up with a single up the middle bringing in
Tim Pokornowski and
Trevor Gustafson cutting the Bulldog deficit to 9-10.
Ben Reilley finished off the eighth inning for the bulldogs with a single to center field driving in
Alex Wattermann to tie the game at 10-10. A strong Bulldog defense holds the Golden Bears to this tie going into the ninth. After a scoreless ninth inning by both teams, they advanced into a tenth inning where a strong defense and RBI by the Golden Bears lead the Bulldogs to lose game two 10-11.Â

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, March 19th for a double-header against Upper Iowa. First game starts at 1:30 PM.Â
