Kyle Kucera kicked off the NSIC Outdoor Championships for UMD on Thursday afternoon in Aberdeen, SD. London battled for the Bulldogs in the women's heptathlon, while Kucera competed for UMD in the men's decathlon. The rest of the Bulldogs will begin competition on Friday afternoon in South Dakota.
"We are within range of points after day one," said Head Coach
Karly Brautigam. " It was great to see some day one PRs. That generally means we are due for a strong second day."
In the heptathlon, London began the day with a new personal best 15.76 in the 100 meter hurdles. For London, the mark bested her previous PR time of 16.02 and was good enough for a sixth place finish in the event. London would then follow it up with a ninth place finish in the high jump, after noting a height of 1.53 meters. London would round out the day a distance of 8.73 meters in the shot put and a time of 28.68 in the 200 meter dash.
In the decathlon, Kucera started Thursday with a massive PR time of 11.97 in the 100 meter dash, which earned him ninth place on the leaderboard. In the shot put, Kucer's distance of 9.69 meters was just shy of his PR distance of 9.83 meters. He would then post a distance of 5.66m in the long jump, before tallying a mark of 1.67m in the high jump. Kucera finished the day with an eighth place finish in the 400 meter dash, after securing a time of 54.52.
