MANN'S CAREER DAY LIFTS BULLDOGS TO SEMIFINAL BUT FALL TO VIKINGS

Brandon, SD -- The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs faced the Minot State Beavers in the quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon, followed by facing the Augustana Vikings Saturday night in the semifinals. The Bulldogs, led by Tosten Mann, defeated the Beavers 6-4, before falling to the Vikings 11-1. 

The Bulldogs were picked to finished 13th in the conference in the preseason poll, before finishing in 6th place in the conference during the regular season and finished 3rd in the conference tournament. The Bulldogs will finish the season with a 25-25 (16-16) record. Brodie Paulson and Tosten Mann were named to the All-Tournament team.

Game One: 
After a scoreless first two innings, the Bulldogs got the scoring started in the top of the 3rd inning as Tosten Mann hit a solo home run down the left field line to take a early 1-0 lead. The Beavers responded with a solo home run in the fourth inning of their own to make it 1-1. In the top of the 5th, Mann stayed hot as he hit his second home run of the game to right field, this time a two-run shot. Brodie Paulson followed him up a few batters later with a two-run home run of his own to right field as the Bulldogs took a 5-1 lead. The Beavers would rally in the 7th and 8th innings as they cut down the Bulldogs lead to 5-4 off of a double and home run to left field, and a single. The Beavers had a chance to tie the game but had a runner thrown out at home, thanks to a great throw from Austin Gordon and Alex Wattermann. Tosten Mann added his third home run of the game in the top of the 9th inning to give the Bulldogs a 6-4 lead, which they would hold on to as Alex Wattermann secured the win for the Bulldogs. 

Tosten Mann had a career game for the Bulldogs as he went 3-5, with 3 home runs and 4 RBI's. Brodie Paulson also hit a two-run home run, while tim Pokornowski and Nathan Rosenberg both scored runs. Zach Kuseske got the start for the Bulldogs as he went 4.0 innings and allowed just 2 hits and 1 earned run. Isaac Benesh got the win in 2.1 innings of relief work, while bouncing back from his previous appearance to allow just 2 hits and 1 run, while striking out three batters. Second Team All-Conference relief pitcher Alex Wattermann secured the win for the Bulldogs as he went 2.2 innings and allowed 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out three batters. 

Game Two: 
After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 1-0 lead. They added another run in the fourth inning off of a solo home run. The Bulldogs scored their only run of the game off of a Tim Pokornowski single through the right side to score Austin Gordon. The Vikings responded in the bottom of the 5th inning as they added 6 runs in the half inning to make it a 8-1 Vikings lead. They would add another run on a single in the 6th inning before hitting a two-run home run to left field to win the game 11-1. 

Tim Pokornowski went 2-4 with a RBI, while Brodie Paulson and Austin Gordon also tallied a hit in the game. Chase Eiden got the start and went 2.2 innings while allowing 3 hits and 1 earned run. The Vikings Jed Schmidt got the start and went a full 7 innings and allowed just 4 hits and 1 run (unearned).

The Vikings advanced to the championship game where they faced Minnesota State, but lost 6-5 as Minnesota State claimed the NSIC Tournament Championship.
