I have been very impressed with the workman's like mentality of this group of young men. They are all guys that have put in their time to be great in our program and expect nothing less from the rest of our team. I look forward to seeing them lead this fall" said head coach
Curt Wiese.
Armani Carmickle steps into the role of captain after his multiple accomplishments in the 2021 season. Carmickle's performance landed him a spot on the First Team All-NSIC. His 1,315 yards broke the all-time UMD record for receiving yards in a single season. Carmickle finished third in the conference and fourth in the nation in total receiving yards.
Brad Dati was another Bulldog honored on the 2021 First Team All-NSIC and given a captaincy role for the upcoming season. Posting 18 tackles, he finished last season third in the NSIC in tackles. Dati found success off the field as well, as he was placed on the NSIC All-Academic team.
Minnesota native,
Brent Laing, was named to the Reese's Senior Bowl preseason watch list in 2021. Laing has been named on the First Team All-NSIC twice. He also earned American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) First Team All-American honors. During twelve games in 2021, Laing helped the Bulldogs offense average 32.58 point per game, while also notching an average of 176.0 rush yards per game.
Two-time captain
Zach Ojile, is coming back ready to lead the Bulldogs for another season. In his six years at UMD he's become dressed in awards. He landed himself his first award in 2018 with an All-NSIC North Division honorable mention. In 2019, he was honored on the NSIC All-Academic Team, and the NSIC All-Conference Second Team. He was awarded the NSIC All-Academic Team honor again in 2020 and 2021. Going into the 2022 season Ojile looks to get back on the field and add to his awards as he leads the Bulldogs to victory.
Back-to-back NSIC All-Conference First Team member is captain
Cole Refsnider. While leading the defensive line in 2021 he notched 25 solo and 12 assisted for 37 total tackles. As an asset to the defensive line Refsnider is prepared to lead the line in the upcoming season as captain.
