Duluth, Minn- The University of Minnesota Duluth opened their 2022 season at home in front of a record breaking crowd against the Michigan Tech Huskies.Over 840 fans filled Malosky stadium to watch the Bulldogs prove triumphant over the huskies with the game winning goal coming at 4 seconds left in the second half.
The Bulldogs pressed early in the first half, with shots on goal from seniors Hannah Caldwell and Lauren Singstock. The Huskies then put UMD back on the defensive with 8 shots in the first half. Michigan Tech fired a goal at 38min. to end the first half 1-0.
Michigan Tech would start the second half on the offensive, putting up 12 shots and 3 corner kicks. Norris continued her impressive defensive showing on the night with 8 more saves.
UMD's first goal of the night comes late in the second half at the 82 min. mark scored by Jackie Jares, her first of the night. The assist goes to freshman Myra Moorjani in her bulldog debut.
Goal number two for the bulldogs comes in at 4 seconds left from Jackie Jares. Jares was assisted by Victoria Thorson and Anna Tobias.
The Bulldogs will continue their non-conference games on Saturday Aug.27 against Northern Michigan University. Kickoff is at 1:00pm CT.
