In its second conference match of the season, the University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team ended their hard-fought road trip with a 1-1 draw against the University of Mary who was picked to finish fifth in the NSIC.
Anna Tobias and
Erin Walpole lead the Bulldogs in shots with two and one a piece. Tobias scored her second goal of the season, assisted by
Eliana Marciano, her first assist of the year.
Both teams showed determination on the pitch this afternoon. The Bulldogs, however, would strike first at 12 minutes on the game clock. Tobias would score off the throw-in from Marciano to put the bulldogs on the board to make it 1-0.
UMD's back line and goalkeeper remained strong midway through the first half, but the Bulldogs couldn't hold off the Marauders for long. U-Mary was able to slip past the Bulldogs' defenses and tie it up at 26 minutes.
It was a busy second half highlighted good opportunities for the Bulldogs, as they were able to create dangerous scoring chances, but they were all thwarted by Marauders' goalkeeper Madisyn Waltman
Despite only posting three saves on the day, Bulldog goalkeeper
Abbie Gotham came out big, diffusing several opportunities put in motion by the Marauders. Gotham was able to keep the Marauders scoreless in the second half.
The Bulldogs remain unbeaten in conference play moving to a 1-0-1 conference record. They return to Duluth with a four-point weekend under their belt and will be back at Malosky Stadium for their conference home opener where they will host Upper Iowa and Winona State.
