BULLDOGS OFFENSE LEADS TO A DOMINANT WIN OVER PEACOCKS IN CONFERENCE HOME OPENER

In its conference home opener, the University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team lit up their offense in a dominant win over Upper Iowa. The Bulldogs remain undefeated in the first three matches in conference play, a feat that hasn't happened since 2013.

UMD saw three different Bulldogs put goals on the board tonight, including Mim Marsan, with her first career goal as a Bulldog. Marsan was joined by Anna Tobias and Jackie Jares

"It was great to be home and get three points added to the weekend. We knew they would come out with quality play and force us to have some nervous moments. They're a great opponent and they forced us to play our top game, " said Head Coach Greg Cane. "We had really good scoring opportunities, with three different scorers on the night. Our forwards kept pushing and our midfield and defense created great opportunities to score goals."

The Bulldogs capitalized early in the game, creating scoring chances within the first few minutes of the first half. The Peacocks would stay on even ground with UMD, Until Tobias took matters into her own hands scoring late in the first half for the Bulldogs.

Within minutes of starting the first half, UMD attacked offensively. They had a total of six shots in the second half. Marsan buried her first career goal 14 minutes into the second half, but the peacocks answered with a goal of their own only minutes later. Jares had the last goal of the night. Off a Peacock penalty, she buried it in the top right corner of the goal, cementing a Bulldog win.

Defensively the Bulldogs showed strength and poise. Junior defender Rachel Boelke controlled the game, directing the flow of the ball and creating opportunities for offense to score. Goaltender Abbie Gotham in her fourth start for the Bulldogs remains undefeated in conference play.

UMD remains 2-0-1 in conference play, and now lies in the top five in the NSIC. The Bulldogs will be back at Malosky Stadium for their second home conference game where they will host Winona State on Sunday Sept. 18th at 1pm for Military Appreciation Night.
