For a third time this season, University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey defenseman
Ashton Bell was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's Defender of the Week after a three-point weekend and Bulldogs series sweep of St. Thomas University.
Bell helped the league's best defensive team allow just one goal, despite facing 10 UST power play in the series, and jumped into UMD's offense with three assists, tying her the most points by a blueliner in the league. While Bell and the Bulldogs have allowed just three goals in their last six games, Sunday marked Bell's fifth game this season with two or more points. With three helpers on the weekend, Bell moved into sole possession of seventh among all UMD scoring defenseman with 71 points (24g, 47a). The former forward has a total of 111 points in her career (41g, 70a) and ranks 18th all-time in scoring. Currently, Bell ranks third among the Bulldogs in scoring with 25 points on 10 goals and 15 assists through 25 games.
The Deloraine, Manitoba native is a two-time WCHA Defender of the Month so far this season in addition to her three weekly league honors.
The Bulldogs will host the No. 3 University of Minnesota this weekend in at Friday-Saturday matinee series that will get underway at 3:00 p.m. both days.
