UMD MEN'S & WOMEN'S TEAMS COMPETED ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT THE JACK JOHNSON CLASSIC HOSTED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA. UMD'S CAILEE PETERSON SETS FASTEST TIME IN DIVISION II THIS YEAR IN THE ONE MILE.

The University of Minnesota Duluth men's/women's indoor track & field teams competed on Friday and Saturday at the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota. Cailee Peterson ran from the front as she finished with the top time for the one mile in all of NCAA Division II so far this year.

The Bulldog men were led in the field events by freshman William Heydt who landed a leap of 13.94m in the triple jump to take home the sole victory for the Bulldogs. UMD junior Colton Kostynick continued to build upon his season accomplishments with a third place finish in the men's shot put (16.45m). Junior Eli Bicek (15.37m) and freshman Jackson Weston (15.12) earned a seventh and ninth place finish. In the pole vault freshman Bastian Baden (sixth place - 3.68m) and freshman Jaden Johnson (ninth place - 1.92m - personal record) rounded out the other top ten performances. In the running events, the UMD distance crew led the way with four top ten finishes in the men's 3000M with senior Lucas Selman (8:40.89) earning a second place finish followed by third place (Jack Van Kempen - 8:41.33), fourth place (Austin Antony - 8:42.12) and sixth place (Owen Dickenson - 8:47.02). UMD also saw junior Josh Miley (16th place - 22.95) and freshman Cole Brisbois (17th place - 23.05) run in the 200m followed by a top ten duo finish in the men's 400m from sophomore Alexander Croston (eighth place - 51.92 - personal record) and junior Bereket Loer (ninth place - 52.04). Senior Jordan Gruenes rounded out the top finishes in the running events for UMD with a fifth place spot in the men's 800m (1:56.84 - personal record).

The UMD women shined in the running events on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis. Senior Cailee Peterson led the women's one mile race finishing first in a blazing time of 4:47.84. Along with Peterson, both Maddie Verkerke (eighth place - 5:08.22) and Franny Seidel (tenth place - 5:13.10 - personal record) finished inside the top ten in the women's one mile. In the women's 800m sophomore Savannah Schley landed in fifth place with a time of 2:15.28 followed by all-amercian senior Haleigh Reindl in sixth with a time of 2:18.83. Megan Gilles landed fourth in the women's 400m with a time of 58.83 and freshman Emily Anderson continued strong performances in the women's 60m with a fourth place finish and time of 7.80 (personal record). The UMD women's distance team in the women's 3000m landed a sixth place finish by Julia Nielsen - 10:11.93, a 12th place finish by Morgan Radel - 10:40.53, and a 13th place finish from Eve Anderson - 10:41.49. In the field events, Emily Jones earned a top ten finish (seventh) in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.57m. The Bulldogs saw two top performers in the women's pole vault with freshman Libby Lommel (eighth place - 3.07m) and sophomore Sabrina Segar (ninth place - 2.92m). UMD's Bryn London finished with 2,943 points to finish in 11th in the women's indoor pentathlon for a personal record. In the long jump Bulldog sophomore Lindsey Root turned in a personal record of 5.17m. All three Bulldogs in the women's weight throw landed personal records (Kayce Gielski, Madeline Klun, Svea Smestad).

Coach Brautigam's Thoughts on the women's team:
"Cailee ran the fastest time in Division II tonight to win the Mile. Bryn posted a lifetime best in the pentathlon, her first of the season. Women's sprints were highlighted by Emily Anderson and Kate Fitzgerald leading the way in the 60M with two personal records. Megan Gilles ran a lifetime best in the 400M. We will shake up the conference lists in the 800M, Mile, and 3k on the women's side with quite a few personal records. All three Hammer throw women set personal records in a competitive field."

Coach Brautigam's Thoughts on the men's team:
"William Heydt hit a huge final jump in triple jump finals to win the event. Our men's 3K was the highlight of the day! Lucas, Jack, Austin, and Owen all breaking into the top 10 for our conference. Kyle had a lifetime best in the Heptathlon. Colton, Eli, and Jackson (JD) all finished in the top 10 in shot put, a really competitive field."
