UMD MEN'S HOCKEY CONCLUDES GAME ONE IN A TIE AGAINST BEMIDJI STATE

Minnesota Duluth recorded their first tie of the year after game one against the Bemidji State Beavers ended 1-1. Though ending in a tie, UMD picked up the shoot-out win. Going into tomorrow's game, UMD will be 8-10-1 overall.

The first 20 minutes of the game remained scoreless for both teams. In the first period UMD took two minor penalties, both of which were successfully killed off. During the first penalty, the Bulldogs held the Beavers to just one shot on goal. In their following penalty, UMD did not allow BSU a single shot. At the end of the scoreless first period, UMD led shots 6-5.

In the second period, the Bulldogs took another two penalties. The Bulldogs once again held the Beavers shot-less during their first penalty kill. UMD then only allowed one shot during the second and successfully killed off their two penalties. The game remained scoreless through the second period and UMD continued to lead shots 11-8.

Early in the third period, Bemidji St. netted the first goal of the night taking a 1-0 lead. In a late effort to tie the game up, UMD pulled the goalie with just 2:26 left. At 1:55 a BSU player tried to clear the zone, but Kaiser stopped the puck at the blue line and sent a rocket through the slots to tie it up. With his unassisted goal, he sent the game into overtime.

In overtime, UMD led the shots 6-3, but could not find the back of the net during the five minutes of 3-on-3. During the shoot-out James netted the lone goal for UMD, and Zach Stejskal stopped all three shots he was faced with.

UP NEXT The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs will head back to Duluth for game two against Bemidji State tomorrow night. The puck is set to drop at AMSOIL Arena at 6:07 p.m.
