After tying their opening game last night, Minnesota Duluth topped Bemidji in a 5-2 game at home. After this weekend's non-conference series, UMD has a 9-10-1 overall record.
During tonight's game five different Bulldogs recorded goals. The Bulldogs included
Darian Gotz,
Kyle Bettens,
Jesse Jacques,
Luke Mylymok, and
Luke Loheit. Loheit and Mylymok both had a two point night, as they added an assist.
Wyatt Kaiser also had a two point night with two assists, along with
Dominic James,
Joey Pierce,
Quinn Olson, and
Owen Gallatin recording one assist each.
As the game had just got started, the Beavers went on a break-away and netted their first goal. Just 18:45 in, Bemidji held a 1-0 lead. With just under nine minutes left in the period, Loheit connected a quick pass to James. James then found Gotz waiting in the slots, who sent a one timer up the middle, and tied the game up 1-1. Only 44 seconds later Bettens picked up the rebound in front of the net to put the Bulldogs ahead by one. At the end of the first period, UMD led shots 14-6.
In the second period, the Bulldogs went on a two-minute power play after the Beavers were called for holding. As the power play was nearing an end, Kaiser set Mylymok up with the puck, where he made a pass from behind the net to Jacques at the top of the crease. Jacques sent a one-timer past Gavin Enright to put UMD up 3-1. With seconds left in the period, Bemidji St. found the open net to close the gap 4-2. BSU led the second period in shots 14-9.
At the end of the third period Bemidji St. trailed by two and pulled their goalie to try to even the score. A BSU skater made a shot from the blue line but Loheit blocked the shot then picked up the puck to score an empty net goal. The Bulldogs secured the win 5-2 against the Beavers.
UP NEXT Minnesota Duluth will take a trip south for their second series against Omaha next weekend Jan. 13-14.
