The #12 ranked University of Minnesota Duluth volleyball team closed out their week with a sweeping win over the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles in this weekend's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchup, getting head coach Jim Boos to the prestigious 550 career wins mark.
Â
Set One: UMD (25) - UMC (12)
Â
UMD started out the first set strong, winning the first point of the night off a Crookston attack error. The offensive power really shined through for the UMD hitters tonight, with multiple strings of unanswered points playing into the Bulldogs' 0.486 hitting percentage throughout set one. Four attack errors from the side of Crookston would dampen their efforts to match the UMD hitters.
Â
Set Two: UMD (25) - UMC (12)
Â
A familiar scenario would play out during set two, with UMD getting off to a hot start and taking the first three points of the set. An early string of 11 consecutive points would prove to be too much of a mountain to climb for Crookston, who put up a .000 hitting percentage in set two. The attack errors would continue to haunt UMC as well, tallying seven errors throughout the set compared to UMD's four.
Â
Set Three: UMD (25) - UMC (13)
Â
The first point momentum would continue for UMD, securing the first two points of set three for themselves. Despite Crookston's efforts to cut down on attack errors, they failed to match the offense of UMD and left multiple strings of consecutive points unanswered. UMC would still tack on those attack errors, tallying five compared to UMD's three and leave the third set with a hitting percentage of .139 compared to UMD's .405 hitting percentage.
Â
550 Career Wins for Boos
Â
With tonight's win over Crookston, head coach Jim Boos achieved his 550th win at the mantle of UMD volleyball. Taking over the program in the 2002-03 season, Boos is currently in his 21st season as head coach and holds a total career record of 550-116.
Â
Top Performers
Â
Senior outside hitter Cianna Selbitschka puts up another double double performance in today's match with 12 kills and 17 digs, inching ever so closer to the 1,000 kill club where she currently sits at 959 career kills. Graduate student setter Madison Gordon spends another match at the top of the assists charts logging another 34 tonight, all after eclipsing the 3,000 assists mark in UMD's last match versus St. Cloud State.
