The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team took to a windy Griggs Field at Malosky Stadium this evening to face off against the University of Mary in an ever-vital Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.
The Bulldogs battled throughout, but were matched by the Marauders at every opportunity.
Mary had the shot advantage early, the wind working against UMD.
The Marauders had their first real chance when a throw-in led to a player breaking through the defense, but she was stopped by Jennifer Norris. They followed with two back-to-back opportunities on the other side of the net, both blocked.
Jackie Jares fought her way into the offensive zone, but ended up on the field just outside the goal area, shooting wide. Thirteen minutes into the game, the Bulldogs had their first shot.
Jares was not to be deterred however, even when her next shot hit the post. She caught her own rebound and sent it home, giving UMD a 1-0 lead.
Despite being nearly tripled in shots, the Bulldogs held their lead into halftime.
UMD returned ready to not only defend their lead, but looking to extend it as well. However, Mary was equally as determined to even the score.
With under thirty minutes left in the game, the Marauders were able to capitalize on a rebound from the cross bar. The Bulldogs now had a tie to break.
Neither team had room to take or give and the score stayed the same. The only changing numbers on the scoreboard were counting down the minutes left.
The game ended with a goal each, UMD settling for their forth tie this season.
The Bulldogs return to Malosky Stadium on Sunday at 12 p.m. to face Minot State.
