#14 Volleyball Falls to Northern State, Splits Final Weekend of Regular Season

The #14 University of Minnesota Duluth volleyball team came up short today in a three set matchup against the Northern State University Wolves to finish out their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season schedule.

Set One: UMD (26) - NSU (28)

The day for the Bulldogs started off strong, splitting the opening two points with NSU and keeping close to their opponent in scoring by not giving up a lead of more than 3 points without being able to match it themselves. By the time the match was at 13-13, six attack errors in the span of 11 lost points from UMD allowed the Wolves to pull away towards the end. A string of six unanswered points for the Bulldogs would allow them to get back into the game, bringing the set to a score of 25-24, but the Dogs would struggle to gain a two point lead and fall in set one.

Set Two: UMD (15) - NSU (25)

The Bulldogs would yet again find themselves struggling to minimize their attack errors throughout the second set. At a score of 4-4, the Wolves would put together a nine point run with the help of seven UMD attack errors. The lead would prove to be too much to come back from, as UMD would collect another seven attack errors in a tough set two loss.

Set Three: UMD (22) - NSU (25)

The momentum would start to shift in the favor of UMD to start off set three, collecting both of the opening two points. They would hold close to the Wolves in scoring for a majority of the set and minimize their own attack errors by forcing seven on the side of NSU with five blocks. It wouldn't be until the end of the set at a score of 22-21 that the Wolves would find a way to put together a string of four unanswered points to finish off the match.

Top Performers

Senior middle blocker Grace Daak led the Bulldogs in kills today with 12 total. Graduate student setter Madison Gordon added another 28 assists to her career total, and senior libero Kaylyn Madison tallied on 13 digs.
