The Season So Far
The Bulldogs ended their regular season schedule last weekend with a win over the MSU Moorhead Dragons and a loss to the Northern State Wolves. UMD clinched a spot in the tournament following their win over the Dragons and with a subsequent loss of the University of Sioux Falls to Concordia St. Paul. They will enter the tournament as the sixth seed with an overall record of 17-9 and a conference record of 10-8, one spot higher than the Winona State Warriors due to strength of schedule.
Scouting Report - Southwest Minnesota State University
UMD will take on the third seeded SMSU Mustangs to open up this year's NSIC tournament, a matchup we have seen twice this season go to four or five sets and end in SMSU wins. Despite those losses, the Bulldogs still remain 68-22 against the Mustangs in program history and brought them to a fifth set program record of 44 combined points in their last matchup.
SMSU ended their regular season schedule last weekend at home, securing the third seed in the conference with a win over Winona State on Friday. However, they were shutout in their final match on Saturday against a strong Concordia St. Paul team. The Bulldogs will hope to capitalize on SMSU's recent loss in order to advance to the semifinal round this weekend.
Looking Ahead
A win in Marshall tomorrow will send UMD to the semifinal round of the conference tournament, hosted by the highest remaining seed following Tuesday's matches. The semifinal round will kick off on Friday, Nov. 17.
