No. 14 Volleyball Sweeps Sioux Falls on Senior Day

DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 14 University of Minnesota Duluth volleyball team took care of the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) in straight sets Saturday as the Bulldogs recognized their three seniors Hope Schjenken, Grace Daak and Madison Gordon at Romano Gymnasium.
 
How It Happened
The Bulldogs, who entered the match on a losing skid at home, fell behind 9-2 in the first set. However, from that point, UMD won 20 of the next 25 rallies, including an 8-0 run off Kaylyn Madison's serve. The Cougars (12-13, 8-8 NSIC) got back within 23-22, but a Schjenken kill gave UMD the set 25-23.
 
Minnesota Duluth took a 7-1 lead in the second set and would not trail in the set. The Bulldogs rolled to a 25-13 win to take a two-set lead. Daak led UMD with six points in the set.
 
Daak recorded the first point of the third set as UMD scored the first five points of the set. Sioux Falls continued to battle and took the lead 8-7. The Cougars then had a 22-21 lead in the third set, but the Bulldogs registered three straight kills from Schjenken, Cianna Selbitschka and Gordon. After fending off one match point, Daak put the match away with a kill to give UMD the set and the match 25-23/
 
Top Performers
Selbitschka led the Bulldogs with 12 kills. Daak finished with 10 kills and matched a career-high with nine blocks. Daak also had a .444 hitting percentage, her highest of the season with at least 10 kills. Gordon finished with a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Madison led the team with 12 digs.
 
Up Next
The Bulldogs (16-8, 9-7 NSIC) finish the regular season on the road next weekend with matches against Minnesota State University-Moorhead on Friday at 6 p.m. and Northern State University (S.D.) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
