UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.Â

The No. 18 University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team earned their sixth National Collegiate Hockey Conference Weekly Player Award, with fifth year Matthew Thiessen being named Goaltender of the Week.Â

Thiessen ended the weekend with 55 saves against the No. 6 University of Minnesota. He had a career-high 47 save performance in Saturday's overtime tie and stopped the Gophers twice in the shootout.Â

He had the fourth most saves out of all NCHC goalies this past weekend, despite only playing 74:51 in net. Thiessen also had the second-best save percentage in the conference (.948).Â

The netminder joins his teammate, two-time 2023-24 Goaltender of the Week, Zach Stejskal.Â

Thiessen and the Bulldogs return to AMSOIL Arena for a series against the University of North Dakota to open NCHC play Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6:07 p.m.
