THE SEASON SO FAR
The Bulldogs found themselves falling to the No.21 spot in the national rankings after a loss to Southwest Minnesota State, but were able to bounce back last weekend with a pair of wins over Concordia St. Paul and No.24 Winona State. UMD continues to find success through their defense, ranking first in the conference in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, and three point percentage defense. They also sit within the top three in seven other statistical categories, including: field goal percentage, scoring margin, and win percentage.
WIECK'S MILLENNIALS
With Jack Middleton officially hitting 1,000 career points in Thursday's game against Concordia St. Paul, UMD's current starting five is now the highest scoring starting five in program history. The core group of Austin Andrews, Drew Blair, Joshua Brown, Charlie Katona, and Jack Middleton have further solidified themselves in program history with 6,745 combined career points, which continues to grow as the season progresses.
SCOUTING REPORT
The MSU Mankato Mavericks find themselves ranked No.3 in the most recent NABC poll. They enter the matchup with a 12-0 overall record and a 6-0 conference record following their own wins over Winona State and Concordia St. Paul last week. The Bulldogs are 4-6 against the Mavericks since 2014, and most recently defeated them 88-68 in the first round of last year's conference tournament.
LOOKING AHEAD
Men's basketball will return after the holiday break to host the University of Mary and Minot State at Romano Gym. The action for the Bulldogs will tip off on Friday, Jan. 5, at 5:30 PM.
