The University of Minnesota Duluth men's/women's indoor track & field teams competed on Friday at multiple meets across two states. A select group of Bulldogs traveled to Brookings, SD to take part in the South Dakota State Indoor Classic, while others went south to Mankato, MN for the Minnesota State Meet. The UMD men turned in a strong fourth place performance at the Minnesota State Meet while the women earned a tenth place spot. Out in Brookings, the Bulldogs saw two additional NCAA provisional qualifying marks as
Julia Nielsen ran a 17:23.76 in the 5000m and the women's distance medley crossed the line with a time of 11:57.12 (Seidel Gilles, Reindl, Peterson).
MINNESOTA STATE MEET
The first meet of the day featured the Bulldogs in Mankato at the Minnesota State Meet. In the running events on the women's side,
Emily Anderson finished in fifth in the 60m (7.75). In the 200m,
Kate Fitzgerald turned in a ninth place personal record performance with a time of 25.70 while
Alaina Steele (eighth - 2:23.48) and
Rachel Boelke (tenth - 2:25.01) both landed in the top ten of the women's 800m. In the women's 3000m, UMD saw three Bulldogs earn top ten finishes ----
Eve Anderson (sixth - 10:38.22 - personal record),
Elizabeth VanLoon (seventh - 10:50.11), and
Lauryn Renier (eighth - 10:54.94). In the field events, the UMD women's team started off with a tenth place mark in the high jump from
Bryn London (1.57m). Bulldogs
Lindsey Root (13th - 5.25m) and
Jacqi Rae (14th - 5.20m) competed in the long jump. In the triple jump,
Kate Fitzgerald led the way with a leap of 10.54m for a seventh place finish followed by
Emily Jones in eighth (10.46m).
On the men's side, the Bulldogs turned in strong performances in the jumps category. In the long jump,
Luke Oberleitner landed a second place spot with a leap of 6.54m followed by
William Heydt at 6.47m. UMD's
Luke Oberleitner and
Jaden Johnson tied for fifth in the men's high jump at 1.92m.
Kyle Kucera added a seventh place in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.16m and a new personal record. The men's throws team had a solid day starting with the shot put.
Eli Bicek finished in fourth with a toss of 16.03 and a personal record.
Colton Kostynick followed in fifth with a toss of 15.83m and
Jackson Weston in seventh with a personal record of 15.40m. Weston (15.52m) and Bicek (15.37m) landed eighth and ninth place finishes respectively in the weight throw. In the running events,
Josh Miley finished with a season best in the men's 200m in a time of 22.70. Bulldogs
Bereket Loer (51.37) and
Alexander Croston (51.44) both turned in season bests in the 400m. In the men's 800m,
Brennan Amundson landed in fifth with a personal record of 2:01.04.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE INDOOR CLASSIC
Day one of the South Dakota State Indoor Classic saw two NCAA provisional qualifying marks as
