The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team landed at No. 6 in the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight bracket. UMD will play No. 3 Black Hills State at the Ford Center in Evansville, In. on Tuesday, March 21 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
To create the new bracket, the winners of each regional tournament were gathered and reseeded from No. 1 to No. 8 based on current performance. Just like the rest of the tournament, the highest seed will play the lowest seed- No. 1 plays No. 8, No. 2 plays No. 7 and so on.
Coincidentally enough, Black Hills State also came into this tournament as the sixth seed in its South Central Regional. A win over No. 1 West Texas cemented the Yellow Jackets' spot in Evansville. BHSU's currently 28-5 on the year. The team's 18-4 mark in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) was good enough for it to finish at a tie for second in the regular season standings.
March Madness, indeed. Only one team that entered the tournament field as a No. 1 seed ended up making it to the Elite Eight, that being Nova Southeastern out of the South Regional. For their efforts, the Sharks earned the No. 1 ranking in the reseeding. NSU's currently undefeated, operating with a record of 33-0. The Sharks won both the regular season and tournament titles in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC)
