BULLDOGS FALL 6-1 TO SMSU

The first match of the two-match weekend for the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs was against Southwest Minnesota State University and ended in a 6-1 defeat in an NSIC affair.
The Bulldogs fought hard, but unfortunately, they were unable to secure any victories in the doubles matches. Despite the valiant effort of UMD's  tennis team, they struggled early on and lost the doubles point. Southwest had all the momentum going into the singles matches, and it showed.
The Bulldogs took one of the six singles matches today. Our lone singles win was from our No. 1 singles, Shay Callaway. Callaway battled hard and won in a two-set match against her opponent, Courtenay Leonard.
Carly Chaney's 11-match win record has unfortunately come to an end. After nearly a two-and-a-half-hour match, Chaney lost in three sets against her opponent, Faith Madikwe. Chaney lost the first in a tiebreaker (6-7), winning the second 6-2, and losing the third 4-6. Chaney's record will go down in the UMD history books, and her season will continue to impress everyone that's able to watch  her.
Although it was a tough loss for the Bulldogs, they will bounce back stronger tomorrow against the Minnesota State Mavericks. Head Coach Jessica Worden said, "Today was a great day on the court for the Bulldogs. We played tough all the way across the lineup. From our doubles teams coming out with a strong start to two singles matches ending in three sets. I'm so proud of the way the team gave it everything they had today. Every match was close all the way around. Every one of our players has improved tremendously since the start of the season and it has been so great to see them grow in practice, and in their matches. We're looking forward to getting out there tomorrow."
The Minnesota Duluth women's tennis team will be in Rogers, Minnesota for a match against the Minnesota State University on April 1, 2023.
