UMD Bulldogs "ALLETE" Moments: Competition
Throughout this year, UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, ALLETE to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C's: Classroom, Competition, Community.Â
A pair of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs have received All-NCHC honors, as announced by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Wednesday afternoon. UMD junior
Wyatt Kaiser was named to the Second-Team All-NCHC, while freshman
Ben Steeves earned All-NCHC Honorable Mentions recognition.Â
Skating in 32 games for the Bulldogs this season, Kaiser has tallied four goals and 15 assists for 19 points. A native to Ham Lake, Minn., Kaiser has been a key component on the blueline this season. He's recorded a plus minus rating of +2 and made 29 blocks. Kaiser received his first NCHC Defenseman of the Week honors of the season after his stellar performance against Cornell. In that series he recorded two goals and an assist and finished with a +5 rating. He received his second NCHC Defenseman of the Week honors after the sweep over No. 1 SCSU. The blueliner recorded four assists on the power play goals scored this weekend. Kaiser also posted one block and finished the series with a +2 rating. Â
Also playing in 32 games this season, freshman Steeves was a goal-scoring machine, potting 17 tallies in 24 NCHC games to tie for the lead among all players in conference play. The 17 goals are the second-most ever by a rookie in NCHC play. He also dished out five assists for 22 points in NCHC games. Overall, Steeves has 20 goals in 32 games this season, tops among NCHC freshmen, second among NCAA freshmen and tied for third among all NCHC players. The four-time NCHC Rookie of the Week has a team-best 26 points overall this season. The rookie also scored two natural hat tricks, making him one of just four in program history.Â
Kaiser and Steeves will meet the Huskies this weekend in the NCHC quarterfinals in St. Cloud. It'll be a best of three series, with games one taking place Friday night.Â
