The University of Minnesota Duluth men's/women's outdoor track & field teams opened up the outdoor season at the Wartburg Outdoor Select in Waverly, IA on Saturday and Sunday. The UMD women finished in tenth place, while the men garnered a ninth place finish.
The Bulldogs were highlighted by a pair of first place finishes in the men's shot put and women's 4x100m relay. Bulldog NSIC All-Conference performer,
Colton Kostynick landed a throw of 16.56m to earn the top podium spot in the shot put. The women's 4x100m team of
Megan Gilles,
Lindsey Root,
Kate Fitzgerald, and
Emily Anderson recorded a time of 48.45 to take home first.
In the women's 100m hurdles, UMD's preseason athlete to watch,
Bryn London, earned points for the Bulldogs with an eighth place finish (15.44) and teammate
Jacqi Rae also earned an eighth place finish in the women's 200m (26.35). The Bulldogs also saw
Kate Fitzgerald cross the finish line in the women's 400m in fourth place with a time of 59.97.
UMD saw numerous other top 10 finishes on the women's side which included
Megan Gilles (400m Hurdles - 7th place - 1:05.24),
Franny Seidel (1500m - 8th place - 4:42.97),
Eve Anderson (5000m - 6th place - 18:44.09),
Bryn London (High Jump - 8th place - 1.50m),
Jacqi Rae (Long Jump - 8th place - 5.29m), and
Libby Lommel (Pole Vault - 9th place - 3.17m). The UMD women's 4x400m relay team also took home a fourth place finish with a time of 4:01.59 (Boelke, Reindl, Seidel, Schley).
On the men's side, Kostynick continued to lead the way with an eighth place finish in the Discus Throw (47.37m) and teammate
Eli Bicek landed in the top 10 (8th place - 49.31m) in the Hammer Throw. In the High Jump, it was
Jaden Johnson who would leap 1.90m for a third place finish. The other top 10 for UMD in the field events was
Luke Oberleitner with a jump of 6.43m in the Long Jump (6th place). In the men's 400m,
Bereket Loer continued his strong performances this year with a 51.12 to land in ninth. The Bulldogs distance crew saw
Owen Dickenson finish in seventh place with a time of 4:00.56 in the 1500m and
Jack Van Kempen cross the line in fifth place with a time of 15:18.18 in the 5000m.
