The UMD men's and women's outdoor track and field teams turned in strong performances at the 2023 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in St. Paul, Minn (hosted by Concordia St. Paul). The UMD men's team finished in fifth place (highest finish since 2015). While the women's team finished in seventh place.
NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Owen Dickenson started off the day for UMD in the men's 1500m with a tenth place finish (3:59.06) while his counter part on the women's side,
Cailee Peterson continued her dominance in the 1500m with a first place and all-conference finish (4:22.26). Peterson improved upon for already NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. In the men's javelin, it was Bulldog
Nicholas Westphal with a sixth place podium finish and personal record (45.89m). In the men's pole vault,
Baden Bastian landed in eighth place with a clearance of 3.95m.
Rachel Boelke earned points for the UMD women's team in the 400m finals with a seventh place finish.
Finn Youberg finished in seventh in the final of the men's 800m.
Austin Antony turned in a final lap performance to gain points for the men's team in the 5000m (8th place).
In the women's 800m final, the UMD women's team had four participants earn points and land on the podium for the Bulldogs.
The women's 4x100m team of Gilles, Grell, Fitzgerald, and Anderson earned points for UMD with a season best time and seventh place finish, while the men's 4x100m team of Miley, Westphal, Brisbois, and Nelson earned a fifth place finish. The women's 4x400m team finished in sixth place (Boelke, Fitzgerald, Gilles, Schley). The men's 4x400m team finished in fifth (Croston, Loer, Rogers, Nelson).
The men's throws team in the discuss notched two point earners as
Colton Kostynick launched a 50.81m for a first place and all-conference finish, while
Eli Bicek finished in eighth place.
William Heydt rounded off the NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a third place all-conference finish in the triple jump (14.34m - personal record).
