MEN’S BASKETBALL MOVES TO 3-0 AS THEY HEAD TO BARCELONA

VALENCIA, Spain – The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team turned in another dominating performance in its third day of competition of its 10-day international trip. The Bulldogs defeated the CC Basketball Academy 75-45 at the Alqueria del Basket to move to 3-0.

With the contest played under International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rules with four 10-minute quarters and a 24 second shot clock, UMD started the game off slow as they could only score 11 points in the first quarter (lowest on this Spain tour). CC Basketball Academy would once again hold steady and end the first quarter with the lead. UMD's Blair would stay hot from the three point line hitting a couple long range daggers.

Both teams would continue to struggle from the field in the second quarter. Defensively UMD would cause problems for CC Basketball Academy especially inside by Lincoln Meister who would have a thunderous block to keep the momentum with the Bulldogs. At halftime the Bulldogs led 30-24. UMD would then come out strong in the second half to take a big lead into the final quarter as Meister once again showed his inside dominance with a dunk over the defender in the paint. UMD's Mattie Thompson also used his creativity on the baseline with a high flying slam dunk.

Mattie Thompson continued his stellar play in Spain, leading the Bulldogs with 15 points and 10 rebounds for his second double double in three games. Blair would hold steady, hitting three from behind the arc to finish with 11 points. Meister would also finish with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

The Bulldogs out-rebounded CC Basketball Academy 55-38 on the glass, including 16-9 in offensive rebounds while forcing 21 turnovers. UMD only shot 13% from three point range but defensively held CC Basketball Academy to only 30% shooting from the field.

Next up is game four [the final game of the Bulldogs international contests] in Barcelona, Spain on Monday.
