The #4 NSIC ranked UMD Cross Country program finished third in both the Men's and Women's collegiate races tonight at the Oz Memorial in Falcon Heights, Minn.
Up against the Division 1 programs of Drake University and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, the Bulldogs put up a strong team performance finishing 13 points for the Men and 6 points for the Women behind second place.
Senior and conference Athlete to Watch Jack Van Kempen finished at the front of the pack for the Bulldog men, finishing fifth overall and posting a time of 15:53.3. Senior Lucas Selman made a strong return to the Oz Memorial after running the course in 2019, finishing sixth overall and posting a time of 15:55.0. Closing out the scoring for the Bulldogs were senior Austin Antony (14th - 16:04.0), graduate student Jordan Gruenes (16th - 16:17.8), and senior Owen Dickenson (17th - 16:23.2).
Senior and conference Athlete to Watch Lauryn Renier topped the scoring for the Bulldog women, finishing ninth overall and posting a time of 19:15.8. Junior runner Savannah Schley finished close behind at 11th overall, posting a total time of 19:20.9. The final three runners filling in the scoring spots were sophomore Kira Almsberger (12th - 19:27.5), senior Alaina Steele (14th - 19:46.3), and senior Anna Palodichuk (15th - 19:49.2).
UMD Cross Country looks to host the 2023 Bulldog Open at Lester Park Golf Course next week on Thursday, September 7.
