Volleyball Completes the Three Set Sweep Over MSU Moorhead

The student athletes of the University of Minnesota Duluth Volleyball team honor their families on today's Parents Day with another Bulldog win, as they complete the three set match win over Minnesota State University Moorhead in another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchup.

Set One: UMD (25) - MSUM (15)

The Bulldogs got out to a quick and early lead of 5-3 to start off the match before a four point streak, highlighted by two service aces from junior defensive specialist Kiley Nihart, shot them farther ahead of the Dragons. The multiple point lead and defensive prowess of the Dogs would prove to be too much for MSUM to overcome as they would not be able to string together more than two points at a time throughout the rest of the set. UMD would eventually put together the final three points of the set, with senior outside hitter Cianna Selbitschka putting the final nail in the coffin with another service ace.

Set Two: UMD (25) - MSUM (20)

Four consecutive attack errors from the Dragons would start off the second set for the Dogs with a comfortable 4-0 lead. MSUM would continue to fight through adversity, stringing together a few series of three point runs while trading streaks with UMD throughout the set. Despite the fight to stay in the game, the 4-0 lead given up at the start of the set would come back to bite the Dragons and would leave the Bulldogs to finish off the set with a big swing kill from junior right side Samantha Paulsen.

Set Three: UMD (25) - (15)

The Bulldogs would prove to continue to feed off their offensive momentum throughout the third and final set, matching every Dragons point with two points of their own. Three groups of three point series from the Bulldogs towards the middle of the set would grow their mountainous lead to 19-9. UMD would continue to match the Dragons offense towards the latter end of the match, and freshman right side Madeline Guetzkow would knock in the final kill to complete the three set sweep.

Top Performers

Freshman outside hitter Paige Decker continued to show her all around dominance, recording a double double and leading the match with 10 kills and 10 digs. Graduate student setter Madison Gordon would top the match assists charts, tallying another 38 to her 2809 career total.
