Bulldog Soccer Hits Roadblock in North Dakota, Falling to Minot State 2-1

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team started off their road trip weekend with another roadblock in their 2024 season, falling to the Minot State University Beavers 2-1 in this evening's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchup.

First Half: UMD (0) - MSU (0)

The two teams started off the night in a defensive gridlock, keeping each other scoreless throughout the first half. While the Bulldogs only collected one shot on goal in as many total shots throughout the first 45 minutes, they would also tally the only corner of the first half while matching saves with the Beavers.

Final Score: UMD (1) - MSU (2)

MSU broke open the scoring early in the second half, sneaking in a goal into the lower left of the net for the first lead of the game in the 52nd minute. The Bulldogs would quickly take their chance to answer back in the 56th minute as freshman Gwendolyn Lilly would take a well placed centering pass from Morgan Eckerle straight through the defender for an open shot into the net, tying things up with her second goal of the season. The score remained equalized up until the final minute of the game on a successful penalty kick goal from the Beavers, securing a narrow loss for the Bulldogs in their opening matchup of the weekend.
