The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team took another loss on their 2024 schedule to open the weekend homestand, falling to the Northern State Wolves 2-1 this evening at James S. Malosky Stadium.
Â
First Half: UMD (0) - NSU (0)
Â
The Bulldogs started off the matchup on the attack, collecting the only three corner kicks of the first half and matching total shots on goal with NSU. The two teams kept each other scoreless throughout the opening 45 minutes, with UMD going into the intermission with four total shots and two shots on goal.
Â
Final Score: UMD (1) - NSU (2)
Â
The Wolves were able to get on the scoreboard first in the head to head, putting the first goal on the board in the 67th minute. The Bulldogs took their chance to bounce back though in the 78th minute, where another UMD corner kick would set Morgan Eckerle up for the centering pass to freshman Gwendolyn Lilly for her third goal of the 2024 season. However, a free kick chance in the 85th minute for the Wolves off a UMD yellow card allowed NSU to break the tie and edge out the 2-1 advantage until time expired.
