The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team got back in the win column this afternoon, notching their second win of the 2024 season with a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons at James S. Malosky Stadium.
Â
First Half: UMD (0) - MSUM (0)
Â
The Bulldogs started off this afternoon's matchup swinging, collecting four shots on goal in five total shots and six corner kicks throughout the opening 45 minutes. The UMD defense also held strong, holding MSUM to only two shots throughout the opening half as both of the two teams went into the halftime intermission scoreless.
Â
Final Score: UMD (2) - MSUM (1)
Â
UMD broke open the scoring floodgates early in the second half as captain Anna Tobias took it upon herself in the 46th minute to take the left footed shot from around 25 yards and find the back of the net. The Dragons were able to equalize the score not too long after though, scoring less than two minutes later to tie it up 1-1. With an even scoreline in the 65th minute, it was Anna Tobias again who gave the Bulldogs the advantage after finishing off a string of passes from Gwendolyn Lilly and Alyssa Doyle with a sliding touch to put it past the MSUM goalkeeper. The Dragons were unable to break through the Bulldog defense as time winded down and UMD collected their second win of the season against an Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponent.Â
